GREEN BAY – Mike Daniels had gotten to know Mike McCabe a little bit, which only made Daniels feel that much worse Saturday afternoon.
After Daniels beat McCabe with a strong bull rush during the first in-pads 1-on-1 pass-rush drill of Green Bay Packers training camp, Daniels was pleased with the play. Then he saw McCabe was still down and in pain, and concern set in. After practice, coach Mike McCarthy said McCabe, who had to be carted from the field, had suffered a hip injury but had no further details, but the injury appeared serious.
“I just really hope Mike can make a full recovery. He’s an awesome dude, he’s a tough kid, and he deserves to be here,” Daniels said at his locker after practice. “Everybody is shooting him prayers and stuff. We’re hoping for the best for him. You never want to hurt somebody, you never want to injure somebody, you never want somebody not to be able to play this game again. You want somebody to know that you’re there and you want somebody to wake up and be like, ‘Dang, boy, that licking he put on me yesterday,’ but I want him to still be able to come out and practice. You never like to see that.”
The Packers signed McCabe an undrafted free agent from Holy Cross this spring.
